Holiday Meal Drive 2018
Our Holiday Meal Drive is kicking off!! Again this year, instead of focusing on collecting as many cans as possible to compete for a pizza lunch, we’ll be focusing on providing balanced meals for specifically-identified student and their families in need, and emphasize the value of compassion and generosity to those in need.
In order to protect the recipients families’ privacy, we’ll be partnering with John Tuck Elementary. So McCall will be collecting food for holiday meals for needy Tuck families and vice versa. Recipient families will be identified by FAN, who will also be responsible for delivering the meals to the families.
- The goal is for each classroom to provide non-perishable food for at least one complete holiday meal for a family, along with as many additional non-perishable food items as possible to supplement the needy family’s meals throughout our 2 week Winter Break.
- In order to provide the perishable food items to round out the family’s holiday meal (meat, dairy, fresh fruit/vegetables, etc), students will also have the option of contributing to a Fred Meyer gift card to be included in each holiday meal box (goal is $20.00/box).
- Students and their families will be encouraged to participate by contributing quality non-perishable food items (no more Ramen!) in unbreakable containers. Or they may choose to contribute cash or change towards the purchase of the gift card (or both!). Remember we are emphasizing quality over quantity, so please help reinforce this distinction with your students.
